A Family That Plays Together, Stays Together

The Van Buren Youth and Community Center was established in May of 2000. Based on a survey of Van  Buren R-1 students it was determined that there was a need in our community for a Youth Center, a haven where kids could enjoy activities without the influence of drugs and alcohol. It has since evolved to accommodate not only the needs of the youth, but the entire community as a whole. This is the only staffed Community Center offering programs and services within a 50 mile radius. We offer programs such as CATCH Kids, WE CAN! and Junior Scientists after school in order to educate the youth  in our area on health and nutrition, physical activity and the harmful effects of drugs and alcohol. Another focus of the VBYCC is the health and fitness of our youth and adult population. We partner with the Carter County Health Center to offer health  and wellness fairs, workshops on health topics such as Heart Disease, Cancer, Diabetes and Children's Health Concerns. We have a walking program available to all citizens of Van Buren and surrounding areas and we also have a fully equipped fitness center. Twice weekly we offer an Exercising with Arthritis Program in partnership with Whole Health Outreach. In addition to programs focusing on nutrition education for the youth, we also offer Skate Nights, Indoor Soccer, Basketball and other organized sports.
